gag is off. we are playing at the "el cid" in silverlake. you cant buy advance tickets. its $9 at the door. doors open at 10 and we are on around 11. it is not a big place. i know i said a couple of posts ago that we would eventually make room for you all. i still believe that is the case. but i think 'eventually' is the operative word there. there will only be room for a couple of hundred of you all this time. i will post a more precise capacity when i get the number. rehearsals have been sounding really solid. should be a good night.

Hi Eric,
The cat's out of the bag! I too, like Dave, can walk away from the computer now. I love the spirit of playing these small shows....I'm sure it will have an amazing energy. I'll wait to hear for more details before I decide to fly out again. Even though it is great to hear about the shows, miss your other posts on what's inspiring you and hope we all get to hear from you more often!

OMG.. that's cool. ...I live a few blocks from that place..but...It'll be another La Cita situation. small small stage...and you could fit ..probably about 120-150 on the floor ...the rest will have to hang outside on the side patio. Love Jane's...but I'd hold out for a bigger venue and not waste your time. . their VIP list alone will take up the floor space. my 2 cents.
A couple of hundred? Will those be cannibalized again? by management, etc?
Be well,
SR
I think it's fantastic that you are doing these small shows.
Enjoying yourselves in a casual, low-pressure environment seems like a great way to reconnect with your beginnings, and the FUN that you had. Build on that enjoyment and share the results with the wider world when the flower has fully blossomed. It seems like a very enlightened way to keep things in perspective, and to make sure the focus is on making music in the spirit of art and celebration.
Here's a moment of transcendent beauty for you (and everyone else here). I dream that some beauty like this can be brought to some new Jane's material. :)

eric, based on the size of your guestlist, and the capacity of the venue, you should come up with a number of actual fans who should expect to get in by waiting in line. this will prevent a lot of unnecessary disappointment... if the number is 20-25 like last time than you guys should come out and say it so people don't waste time. do you realize just how many hours of time and money was wasted last time? let the fans see the band for crying out loud!

Mr. E
You know impatient Navarro let the cat out of the proverbial bag earlier yesterday, took it down, then put it back up. I bet as a child he knew everything he was getting for Christmas before Christmas morning! ;-)
I know all these little tiny club dates are just leading up to something bigger and wider. After seeing what Dave posted yesterday prematurely I actually gave consideration to flying from NY to LA for it and did actually find a uber cheap flight. But without a guarantee of getting in I can't justify spending the $$. So I'll wait. In NY. Patiently.
Eric,
Awesome news. I hope you're having a fulfilling and joyous time playing with the band again. Love the way you guys are mysteriously rolling out the small shows. It's a cool way to ease back into it, and get the buzz snowballing. Have a fantastic show next week. If and when you guys hit NY/NJ, I will be there for sure.
I leave you with a video I just made with lil Avery. He's now 2.5 It's to be sent to his great grandma over in Armenia. Song gets me everytime. Enjoy.
Best amigo, Matt

don't bother
Yeah man...that kid don't look like EA.
Matt,
Awesome video. You are blessed. This was generous of you to share. As much as I divulge on this site, I never mention my family or my daughter's blog. I'm hoarding the most sacred. Where you are truly free. Truly generous.
Thanks.

Great Eric hope you have a good time playing!!...but also hope the band´s warming up for some big venue shows cause I don´t live in LA and can not afford $$ just to try get in man!
Have a cero kill show!
Hey Mike,
Thanks a lot amigo, very kind of you to say, appreciate it. You are one of the few genuine and noble people on this blog and I always appreciate your comments and correspondence.
As for what the other ignorant people have just stated regarding the fact that I shared my son's video with EA, I could give a flying f$#*!. It never hurts me because I am highly secure in everything I do in life, and people like that aren't worth a nano second of my time, or anyone's time for that matter.
Take care friend, Matt
Since you don't care what people say no one gives a shit about your kid.
You come across very stalkerish
This is the the last I will address this issue, but I will say this my friend, you are dead wrong. I care very much what everyone says on this blog. I value what most people say here very much. You chose to say something unkind, so I chose to call you on it, plain and simple. Secondly, I have met Eric in 05, we had a good discussion then and since that time have corresponded on this blog since he started it back in 06. Not that I am saying we are friends, but I consider my correspondences with him slightly different than just everyday fan to celebrity. I am in no way "stalkerish" . I was simply sharing something I thought he may appreciate.
I personally could care less what you think, asshole.
Eric
I suggest a restraining order!
I am the only one here sick of the government lies and propaganda we get force fed on mainstream TV news everyday? the general public just eats it up! its sick!
Hey Matt,
Don´t waste your time man with small people... post what ever you wanna post ...this is Eric Avery´s BLOG nothing is off limits!
I read but don´t participate much and i KNOW Eric has answer you back several times in this blog!
Saludos,
JMP
PS: Simon your right man ...don´t believe them.People need to travel more and see the world with their own eyes....the US has done a lot of fucked up things over the world in the past decade and no one tells ya....and inside the country uff!
I think what is important is the word you mentioned Eric- "solid". A solid band is strong and can continue to rawk our worlds in a small venue of a couple of hundred, as well as a a venue of 5.000. I am just stoked that you guys are jamming again and are moving forward... Thanks Eric for making this happen. Without you...It's not Jane's... I'm just saying.... dizzeespell~
Thank you very much JMP, appreciate the kind words.
Best, Matt

Eric,
We are all really happy about these shows, but there is definitely a better way to handle the El Cid show than having all of your most loyal fans waiting outside for hours like La Cita. I can think of 3 off the top of my head:
1) Hand out some sort of marked number while taking names and checking ID's early in the day so people can come by, get a number, and return later at a more reasonable time.
2) Take email requests for tickets and hold a lottery for a conservative number of the available tickets to the public so that all lottery winners are guaranteed entrance to the best of your ability.
3) Sell virtual tickets starting at a designated time sometime this week.
All of this is predicated on you or your management company inviting the fire marshal IN ADVANCE to the venue to assess the capacity. This action alone would most likely reduce fan frustration.
Thank you for reading.
-Adam
FUCK YES!!!!
I will not be able to sleep until the 21st!!!
Old School style...first in line...first in the door..
THANK YOU for NOT having a lottery, advance tickets, or a wristband..
whats next....Spaceland?? Silver Lake Lounge?
How about a set in the LA River!!!
found this vid recently about a certain drum beat and its uses over time. amazing.

as well, have a great show. can't wait till you come east with the band.
Thanks Eric, would make my year to see you play with the band again. Very happy to see you all playing the best music in the world again,
Jim
oh, BTW, I am going to try to make it to Silverlake Thurs night,
again, much repsect

Eric Southamerican tour:
Brasil- Rio, Sao Paulo
Argentina-Buenos Aires
Chile- Santiago
Check Colombia and Peru I hear good words from those countries too...It would feel like playing back in the late 80´s early 90´s..If you don´t know down here Janes is a band that would sell out 5.000 capacity venues easy cause of its hardcore fans.
The pit here is on man!
Can't wait to see the show.
Just guessing for fun

Eric,
Any indication on how many of the non-band guest list fans will be let in? I would love to see you guys in such intimate settings, but I don't want to wait five hours in line for nothing.
FYI, a few news outlets are portraying this El Cid gig as a make-up for the fans who didn't get in to the La Cita gig. If so, that's goofy, as it sounds like only a few ordinary joe-six-packs-and-a-joint like me are going to get in. Would be interested to hear your thoughts on that.
Eric,
Were all excited about the show on Thursday. Considering the logistical nightmare of trying to get in, how about podcasting the show live?
All the best to you and the fellas.
Way to make us smile during these troubled times.
Mike J
SLC
yes eric...any info on how many will get in. i'm probably making the drive from the san francisco area and am curious what my chances are.
To the ones trying to attend 200 maybe the capacity to "El Cid"...
Take notice;
Maybe at least 50 will be VIP
Navarro gave free tickets in his website
So 140 maybe will get in...if no problems with the fire marshall..
I will take a chance since I live near by and if I don´t get in I will hang around and check the music from the outside..
Bet they´ll play Three Days this time....
next show: que sera sera
mark my words
its simple,if your hardcore get there early! stop being pussys!
Getting there early doesn't ensure a thing if you're not on the list.
FACT.
Just spoke to El Cid management. They said NO TICKETS will be available. Only guest list for family/friends. He said "NOBODY ELSE will be getting in".
IF ANYONE HEARS ANY DIFFERENTLY PLEASE LET US KNOW.
I hope nobody bought non-refundable airline tickets, or if you are still flying in, GOOD LUCK!
the El Cid Mgmt was pissed about this show from the beginning so I wouldnt be surprised if they said that just to dissuede people from lining up.
who gives a crap
who gives a crap
this is sweet, u guys are sounding soo good live that bass is just so powerfull, awesome!!!
Great Band, 4 guys who are meant to play together
Hey Eric,
So is this show really guest list only like the xiola site says or is it what you said? $9 at the door? I am utterly confused and possibly totally crushed. thanks.
"lhr" wins the award for the dumbest post ever
Haha. Agreed!
Eric,
Have an awesome show tonight, I'm sure you'll kill it up there...
Best, Matt
It´s my birthday today and I´m miles away from the Jane´s gig.
That band sounds so good live, just checking out a bootleg i´ve got from 1990 at the Palladium...that fucking bass sounds great man!
Janes playing tonight feels good though...
JMP
how early should i get there? i'm thinking 4 pm arrival...or will there already be hundreds of people in line? i'm guessing they'll let in 100-150 fans. can anyone swing by there to see how many are already in line?
E,
happy wishes from the East Coast.
This is all so wonderful.
Kick ass tonight and have a blast!
Cheering you on Maestro!
Glad your hands are staying busy.
The footage of the last show made me laugh 'cause you looked like you were both in a boxing match and making love at the same time!

aka DJ drive by hugs
eric, hopefully you guys are opposed to playing LIVE NATION venues like the newly reopened remodeled and ruined hollywood palladium and especially the worst sounding venue in LA, the wiltern theater. the charm of the palladium is officially gone.
the second this band steps into corporate territory you're toast.
the only chance janes has at a new life is to remain comletely DIY and work with independent entities.
it's the only chance it has at respectability. this includes lollapalooza which is a huge ego trip and a disgustingly corporate event.
yeah man, calm down. just be happy they're back together doing some shows. if they needed your insight you would be part of their staff and not defecating your wisdom on this board.
Thank you for the best show I've ever seen in my whole life.
Great show Eric! I got my fix of of one of the best bands on the planet. Nice to see a mature stable healthy Jane's Addiction kicking ass! Lots of good vibes and high energy! That was my first time seeing it all original as it should be. It never sounded quite right without you!

Best show EVER. Just got back. Check it.
http://acianciotto.spaces.live.com/
best show ever? nice, bring on east coastness!!!!
Was at the show last night. Right in front, of course on your side of the stage. All I can say is amazing and thank you, it's nice to have the heavy bass back.
Lisa
Good for you Eric! Lisa and I from 18th & Arizona a while back say HI!
Hey, Eric
I'm reading everywhere the show was amazing. First time in quite a while I don't read ONE fan complaining about any aspect of Jane's Addiction. After about 10 years of participating in different fans' forums, I have to tell you that's quite an achievement.
I have one question, I don't know why I remembered this: I once read somewhere that you didn't record the bass in "Of Course", and that it was some other bass player... what's that all about?
Take care, congratulations once again. Oh, and I'll forever insist that you guys come to South America. Tell your management to try! I can get you a 2-bedroom apartment just for you, free of charge. Just COME PLAY HERE!
Have a beautiful weekend.
JM
I just spoke with a "fan" who was there last night and he was impressed by how much care was taken by the band and management to insure as many fans got in as possible.
No artist exists per se...so glad that there was a symbiotic thing going last night.
Be well,
SR
I love how the "El cid" website simply has "Janes Addiction" for nov.20 in their events calendar. No bullshit, no links. Almost to say...."fuck off if we need to elaborate"
