I could not agree more. This almost feels very much like a movie to me. It's feels so wonderful to know a younger, i i i could not agree more. This all seems like a movie to me. I i could not agree more. Its a wonderful feeling knowing someone who is younger, more attuned and just a way (seemingly) purer human being is our new leader. I know it's overused, but, it also feels surreal to me, like this only happens on the big screen. The man is ahead of the curve, he refuses to be pigeonholed yet he's classy and gentlemanly about it and not rogue. This is a quality to me that can make a great artist, a great athlete, or, a great president.

Hope you're well Eric.

If Osama decriminalizes posession of cannabis and lsd, America will definitely be a better place. He promised us this and I intend to hold him account.

I'm glad to see people excited about a new President. I hope he does indeed make this nation a better place. But I'm sorry I don't agree with his collectivist movement. I am for liberty, the liberty movement and upholding the constitution, not rewriting it in the form of European styled socialism.

Ok I agree in some of your views..lets hope for the best and that changes are made.

I remember all the time middle east...also remember the following

Bush tricky moves

1)The election scam against Gore in Florida

2)His ties with family in FOX news and Florida state to call the election for his side.

3) His FAMILY economic ties with the Bin Laden Family

4)9-11: America under attack? or self attack?? will NEVER know.

5)His Brother or family company cleaning The WTC debris in ground zero....

6)The fake mass destruction weapons in Irak in order to make war for oil or was it democracy?

7)Katrina...anyone remember how he treated the black community...his mother´s coments on TV....what a shame.

8)Making huge expenses on war budget makin it worse for the financial crisis in the US, fucking up the world´s economies as a whole...will see how that ends...

So again lets hope for the best, America is better ...way better without Bush in office.

It´s better now, not great, but better.

I would like to request a blog hint about the Box set too, as lhr did in the above post.
The only thing i really care about is the inclusion of brand new songs with your contribution Avery.
I don't like obama but the anticipation of hearing new Jane's songs could make me like him as much as you do.

Ihr,

I´m skeptic too but i´m trying to believe Obama will bring the change is needed...and for me would be to put an END TO THE WAR..but i think he´s going to focus on the financial crisis...

The health system situation is a damn shame also...but I think is going to take more than 4 years to fix that if you can fix that at all...corporations with too much power.

The nightmare is over.

Now, as for the music, the chamber piece with Itzhak Perlman et al, and the Aretha Franklin bit, were the music. Man, how did Perlman and Ma play so well in 26 degree weather?

Everyone is still blinded by B. Hussein Obama's "star" power. People need to wake up! Everytime I ask someone who voted for this guy why they voted for him, they have no idea, or they spew some recycled sound bytes from MTV. I know we need a change from Bush, but change in the wrong direction is not the way to go. Ask the poor people in Venezula, Russia and Cuba (at least those not afraid to talk). Wake up America! Turn off the T.V. and try to read for yourselves - and not something on the Oprah book list for a change!

Been to Cuba and believe me Obama is not Castro, Chavez or the current president of Russia... how can you possible think the US is headed that way...don´t undertand your point...and I don´t watch shity Televisión.

Reading is wonderful, of course, lhr, and we've all got a lot of it to do. It's preposterous for you to think that your overly-long, rambling discourses are so important to us that we'd actually allot a portion of our precious time reading them. You don't do yourself any favors being long-winded - all that you accomplish is the likelihood that others will ignore you completely.

To be succinct is a skill and a virtue.

To answer my own question, "how did Perlman and Ma play so well in 26 degree weather?" Turns out you only heard them if you were up close in person. The cold fucked with their instruments to the point that they had to go with a recording they did a couple days beforehand broadcast.

how can we expect a solid, strong, powerful, unified, glorious, arrogant, sensual jane's when all of its members except for you are running off in different directions.
perkins has his glam band gigs, navarro has the tv show prep, perry is doing satellite party gigs. where is there time for a full unified effort?

The earth and the moon are living evolving beings. Humanity was designed to serve the evolutionary purposes of the earth and the moon. Human beings are organs of sense perception for the earth and in their continual transformations of this planet they serve the planet's needs, not their own.

There are many finer gradients of matter that science does not register-not only ideas and thoughts but even a substrate of the human spirit are types of material.

What is war? It is the result of planetary influences. Everything that happens on a big scale is governed from outside, and governed by either accidental combinations of influences or by general cosmic laws.

I can understand why you guys may prefer not to write any new orginial songs because it will obviously be compared and contrasted with your early work.
But if Jane's Addiction could record some cover songs from the classic period 1969-1971 (adding your own personal touch) and add them to the Box Set, I would be most grateful.
Thank you God Bless.

Global Cooling Under-Reported, Says SPPI

Washington, D.C. 1/23/2009 05:50 PM GMT (TransWorldNews)

The Earth has shown an under-reported cooling trend for eight straight years, raising serious questions about the accuracy of the UN’s climate projections, since not one of the computer models on which it relies had predicted so long and steep a cooling, says a new review paper -- Temperature Change and CO2 Change – A Scientific Briefing --from the Science and Public Policy Institute, a Washington, D.C. think tank.

The paper posits that “The chief reason for scepticism at the official position on “global warming” is the overwhelming weight of evidence that the UN’s climate panel, the IPCC, prodigiously exaggerates both the supposed causes and the imagined consequences of anthropogenic “global warming”; that too many of the exaggerations can be demonstrated to have been deliberate; and that the IPCC and other official sources have continued to rely even upon those exaggerations that have been definitively demonstrated in the literature to have been deliberate.

“In short,” writes Monckton, “science is being artfully manipulated to the point of what are in essence political and not scientific conclusions – a conclusion that is congenial to powerful factions whose ambition is not to identify scientific truth but rather to advance the special vested interests with which they identify themselves.

The paper demonstrates that if CO2 concentration continues to rise more slowly than the IPCC had predicted, and if climate sensitivity to CO2 concentration is in any event well below the IPCC’s projected range, the likelihood of any “global warming” >2 °C/century to 2100 is vanishingly small.

Monckton also demonstrates that official sources have:

relied upon questionable and occasionally downright dishonest methods to inflate the observed rate of temperature increase
created the false impression that the rate of increase is itself rising when an identical argument can be used to demonstrate that it is falling
diminished earlier and warmer temperatures in this century
abolished the mediaeval warm period
diverted attention away from the fact that throughout almost all of the Holocene, and throughout all four previous interglacial periods, surface temperatures were considerably warmer than they are today.

Says SPPI president, Robert Ferguson, “When the climate science is wrong, the policies are wrong, and then both people and the environment are harmed. It is past time that the media and elected officials stop treating “man-made global warming” as a religion and started asking some serious and pointed questions. This paper lays the ground work for that.”

The entire paper can be accessed at: http://scienceandpublicpolicy.org/monckton/temperature_and_co2_change_briefing.html

Global cooling is here
DEROY MURDOCK

Winter officially arrives with Sunday's solstice. But for many Americans, autumn 2008's final days already feel like deepest, coldest January.

New Englanders still lack electricity after a Dec. 11 ice storm snapped power lines. Up to eight inches of snow struck New Orleans and southern Louisiana that day and didn't melt for 48 hours in some neighborhoods.

In southern California Wednesday, a half-inch of snow brightened Malibu's hills while a half-foot barricaded highways and marooned commuters in desert towns east of Los Angeles. Three inches of the white stuff shuttered Las Vegas' McCarren Airport that day and dusted the Strip's hotels and casinos.

What are the odds of that?

Actually, the odds are rising that snow, ice, and cold will grow increasingly common. As serious scientists repeatedly explain, global cooling is here. It is chilling temperatures and so-called "global-warming."

According to the National Climatic Data Center, 2008 will be America's coldest year since 1997, thanks to La Niña and precipitation in the central and eastern states. Solar quietude also may underlie global cooling. This year's sunspots and solar radiation approach the minimum in the Sun's cycle, corresponding with lower Earth temperatures. This echoes Harvard-Smithsonian astrophysicist Dr. Sallie Baliunas' belief that solar variability, much more than CO2, sways global temperatures.

Meanwhile, the National Weather Service reports that last summer was Anchorage's third coldest on record. "Not since 1980 has there been a summer less reflective of global warming," Craig Medred wrote in the Anchorage Daily News. Consequently, Alaska's glaciers are thickening in the middle. "It's been a long time on most glaciers where they've actually had positive mass balance," U.S. Geological Survey glaciologist Bruce Molnia told Medred Oct. 13. Similarly, the National Snow and Ice Data Center found that Arctic sea ice expanded 13.2 percent this year, or a Texas-sized 270,000 square miles.

Across the equator, Brazil endured an especially cold September. Snow graced its southern provinces that month.

"Global Warming is over, and Global Warming Theory has failed. There is no evidence that CO2 drives world temperatures or any consequent climate change," Imperial College London astrophysicist and long-range forecaster Piers Corbyn wrote British Members of Parliament on Oct. 28. "According to official data in every year since 1998, world temperatures have been colder than that year, yet CO2 has been rising rapidly." That evening, as the House of Commons debated legislation on so-called "global-warming," October snow fell in London for the first time since 1922.

These observations parallel those of five German researchers led by Professor Noel Keenlyside of the Leibniz Institute of Marine Sciences. "Our results suggest that global surface temperature may not increase over the next decade," they concluded in last May's "Nature," "as natural climate variations in the North Atlantic and tropical Pacific temporarily offset the projected anthropogenic (man-made) warming."

This "lull" should doom the 0.54 degree Fahrenheit average global temperature rise predicted by the UN's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, the Vatican of so-called "global warming." Incidentally, the IPCC's computer models factor in neither El Niño nor the Gulf Stream. Excluding such major climate variables would be like ESPN ignoring baseball and basketball.

So, is this all just propaganda concocted by Chevron-funded, right-wing, flat-Earthers? Ask Dr. Martin Hertzberg, a physical chemist and retired Navy meteorologist.

"As a scientist and lifelong liberal Democrat, I find the constant regurgitation of the anecdotal, fear mongering clap-trap about human-caused global warming to be a disservice to science," Hertzberg wrote in Sept. 26's USA Today. "From the El Niño year of 1998 until Jan., 2007, the average temperature of the Earth's atmosphere near its surface decreased some 0.25 C (0.45 F). From Jan., 2007 until the spring of 2008, it dropped a whopping 0.75 C (1.35 F)."

As global cooling becomes more widely recognized, Americans from Maine to Malibu should feel comfortable dreaming of a white Christmas.

Dear "global cooling" jackass, the stats are against you. Science is against you. You can cite as many articles as you like by the scientific fringe. Anyone can provide for you the opposite view of yours, thousands of times over whatever you can dig up, and by our most esteemed scientists. In light of this, your course of action - posting "global cooling" articles as if the existence of or volume of such articles makes some sort of case - seems poorly considered.

Clearly there is overwhelming evidence which is undeniable, that human activities are playing a major role in the earths accelerated evolution towards a less human hospitable environment...
However; it is extremely annoying to listen to people only speak out for things which are often abstract, while they easily ignore more immediate & realistically solvable issues.
Example: That car with all of the bumper stickers like "save the planet", or "fight racism" etc...

Obviously...they really want to feel good about themselves..and they have no problem repeating the obvious to strangers they would otherwise never speak with...and this is often the extent of their efforts to contribute towards the betterment of society.
They still think their neighbors are child rapists & murderers...and they like to laugh about retards when watching the Simpsons or South Park.

It IS annoying. Yes..the planet will spit us out one day...yes racism is weak...yeah the wales are going extinct...
But why don't YOU do ANYTHING about something tangible...rather than just feel good about yourselves for theoretically taking the pre-established obvious moral high ground?

Regurgitating the obvious does not make you intellectual..doesn't make you innocent...you haven't done your part by pointing the finger at invisible "evil doers".

Similarly; those anonymous trolls who like to say stupid shit on blogs just to get people going are equally annoying.
but...that's another rant which needs no further explanation...

Well...wisely it's been suggested that I try to keep it short so I'll end with this:
George Carlin on the environment

Check it out...& then please give your retarded thoughts...

peace

sometimes I ponder what janes would be like if dave decided to forgo the use of guitar distortion for an entire album. not many people realize this but if done right, acoustic music can be just as heavy and urgent as any thrashy, industrial metal, but without all the unsophisticated noise and brash delinquency. properly EQ'd acoustic guitars, when strummed and layered with preamped bass guitar and drums recorded "hot" can be impressively intense. anyone agree?

Anonymous said...

and to get a little more technical....when you have all that guitar distortion and gain pumping through the meters it eats up a lot of sonic space and leaves very little "breathing room" for the other instruments to shine through. the bass guitar is often buried or muddy. some distortion is ok at times but is better when at around 40-50% a la keith richards rolling stones style distortion and not korn or marilyn manson type distortion. anyone with a boss metal zone pedal can do what those metal guys do.

I love the Rolling Stones, they were the first real Punk band!

THE HISTORY OF PUNK - The Rolling Stones

"Its a fair comment that the Stones (named after a Muddy Waters song) were the Anti Christ's to The Beatles and thank god for that. R&B riffs, dirty blues and Jaggers mock American vocals made them dead certs for success in Uncle Sam land. They got up everyone's noses and the kids loved them. Beatles or Stones ? Compare their version of I want to Be Your Lover complete with Blues slide guitar. Pisses all over The Beatles. The Beatles were pop. The Stones were R&B. Early songs showed their influences of Chuck Berry, Willy Dixon, gospel and country.

While the Beatles were loveable mop tops the Stones looked like Neanderthals and they played it to the hilt. They portrayed themselves as vulgar, arrogant and aggressive causing parental and establishment disapproval with their attitude including peeing against garage walls and allegedly snacking on confectionary from the hairy cup. 'Satisfaction' their theme toon railed against advertising while hinting at unrequited sex and the nihilism of youth. The authorities hated them. Punks with money, women and prestige.. Their contribution to punk has never been truly acknowledged probably because of what they became. From the nihilism of Paint It Black thru the garage punk of Be Your Lover, Satisfaction and Jumping Jack Flash. Where would the Dolls have been without Richards hairstyle and jaggers lips and unusual dress sense ??? The link between The Blues, Rock'nRoll and garage.

We can even laugh at their ludicrous attempts to mimic the Beatles with their dreadful Satanic Majesties Request album. But all power to them they came back with Let It Bleed and Beggars Banquet ( the original cover was going to be a manky graffitied urinal !!!)... two near perfect albums and as spiky as ever. Like the Beatles reality intervened at Altamont when instead of being Lucifer, Jagger and his cohorts were just jumped up rock stars out of their depth in the reality of a death. Unfortunately that was it.. as America drugs and money beckoned they progressed to become a drug addled super group going thru the motions and embodying the worst excesses. But for a golden period they were the bollocks. Now a corporate monster and freak show to despise. A living waxworks."

"Jane's needs to show some forward creative progress in '09 or they're simply going to be this year's Love and Rockets, Van Halen or any one of dozens of other reunions that offer(ed) nothing more than middle aged men trotting out their quarter-century old music in pursuit of retirement income when you know they have so much more to offer beyond being a human '80's jukebox."

From the Telegraph.co.uk:

Too much television and time spent on the internet can make children mentally ill, an in-depth report has concluded. Excessive exposure makes a child materialistic, which in turn affects their relationship with their parents and their health.

That is one of the conclusions of a new wide-ranging survey into British childhood, produced for the Children's Society.

It says that children are part of a new form of consumerism, with under 16 year-olds spending £3 billion of their own money each year on clothes, snacks, music, video games and magazines.

The report claims that some advertisers "explicitly exploit the mechanism of peer pressure, while painting parents as buffoons" and that in its most extreme form, advertising persuades children that "you are what you own".

In addition the "constant exposure" to celebrities through, TV soaps, dramas and chat shows is having a detrimental effect.

It says: "Children today know in intimate detail the lives of celebrities who are richer than they will ever be, and mostly better-looking. This exposure inevitably raises aspirations and reduces self-esteem."

It adds the way celebrities are portrayed "automatically encourages the excessive pursuit of wealth and beauty."

This "media-driven consumerism" is having a negative effect on a child's wellbeing, the report says.

Not Satellite Party alone, Panic Channel is rubbish too mate. Both of them went off the deep end since 1997. Read the interviews they are in denial and so out of touch.

Eric, please pass along this note to Perry and Dave, it's how many of us around here feel

"ROCK MUSIC.

No matter how old the artists are and what their life experiences, they make music for "kids." It's absurd to the point of offensiveness. If it's "kid" music, then Jane's should make music for 15 yr old kids and we should keep on distracting ourselves elsewhere. The "kids" business suggests pandering and selling out. If the goal of Jane's is to be played a lot on KROQ, then the whole thing is a sham, and can only end horribly. If you're not making music for people of intelligence and taste similar to your own, ARE YOU NOT THEN SOME KIND OF VERSION OF THE WIGGLES FOR TEENAGERS?

If, on the other hand, Jane's does not aim to make "rock" for "kids," but instead aims to simply make MUSIC (which may well rock, BTW), and aims not to be played nonstop on KROQ, but instead to make music which is deep and from the heart, and full of art and complexity and variety, then we'd be getting somewhere. We can look at the model of Radiohead or Tom Waits. These people simply make music. They make what they want, and they take chances and they DON'T UNDERESTIMATE THE INTELLIGENCE OF THEIR AUDIENCE. They don't make music for "kids," they make music for people. Tom Waits does whatever the fuck he feels like, and he has a devoted audience that is guaranteed to pack a theatre every single time. He will never play to an empty seat, and he will also never try to make a KROQ record and play in giant stadiums.

I hope that Jane's aims to make quality art for intelligent PEOPLE. They will never play to an empty seat."

Any chance we could get an interview because there's a lot of unanswered questions that I think would clear up a lot of worries, fears and speculation about Janes Addiction's immediate goals. Maybe the guy who operates "some divers whistle" could ask Eric about some of these pending issues. Plus its always a pleasure hearing Avery's insight. Then we could get back to normal blog discussions like they were a year ago.
