there are some days, and i hope you have all have as many as possible, that are entirely unlike the rest. my problem has never been that life got too dramatic for me; bad or good. it is that sometimes i let life get uneventful for long enough that it no longer seems important. that life doesnt seem important. therefore time just quietly tics by. this is not one of those days and this is about to be a time that doesnt do anything quietly. must finish packing. let it begin...

I am totally psyched that not only are Jane's playing and touring again, but you're making the long trek down to Australia. I never thought you'd be making it down here and am eternally grateful that you have included us in your touring plans.

Looking forward to seeing you play in July.

Much thanks...

Unfortunately I live way too far to catch a show from you guys.

I want to wish you the best of lucks, and when things get rough always keep in mind that everyone's process since 1991 has led them to where/what/how they are now, including yourself. And time has proved that you made the right choices, you did things for yourself, for your family, you fought with and for yourself. Your instincts and your thoughts have guided you correctly, in spite of all the struggle.

What I mean is: follow yourself, you know damn well how to guide you :)

Take care on the road, man... best wishes!

Hey Eric,

I can understand what you mean when you say one can let life become uneventful to the point where life doesn't seem important. I've experienced that on a small scale when I've been between my music projects or film/tv ones. Days and hours seems to go on forever when things are stagnent creatively for me. On the flip side, though, my family life keeps me extremely busy in a great way, so that's cool and keeps life for me interesting.

But it sounds like you will have plenty of meteoric events to keep you busy in the days ahead. I wish nothing but the best for you on the road with Jane's- some quality time playing the bass, hanging with friends and feelings of utter joy and fulfillment knowing that you personally are making millions of people extremely happy that you are once again rocking out in one of the world's greatest bands that ever graced the stage. See you in NJ!

Best, Matt

This is in reply to the troll who posted the quote below. So I guess its not ok for 60+ year old greats like roger waters, mick jagger and paul mccartney to sing rebellious songs they wrote in their youth either. Its sad you feel the urge to visit here as a guest and take a big dump.

"Can't wait to hear 50-year-old Perry pretending he means it while singing about finding fun with freaks and niggers. If this band meant anything then you should have continued to make music while you were relevant. Now it's just sad."

i'm not sure where the complaints are coming from, has there been a large enough base of shows to really have an idea what the setlists will look like or if they are the same from one show to the next? As far as covers, excluding Bobhaus, wouldn't you think the band would have enough songs of their own to be able to come up with something fresh from day to day? I agree, seeing the same setlists like the last reunion would be stagnant, then again those shows were only Jane's in name, w/ EA back in the fold I'm sure there will be more energy in keeping it fresh, not only for the audience, but for the band. I hope the boys dig deep and bring back "Obvious". Played live it really captures EA and Stephen as the backbone of Jane's, setting a nice plate for Perry and Dave.

I'll protect you said...

"I think they're really good," Farrell tells Billboard.com. He calls one, "Embrace the Darkness," "a festival anthem," while "I'll Protect You" is about a pair of runaways whose paths cross.

Lol. The lyrics have yet to be revealed but Eric, there's still time to save face and convince Perry to change those cheesy titles. I have a feeling this is what the fighting in the studio was about. Eric writes thought provoking classy lyrics and Perry gives us cheese now(Satellite Party lyrics). I hope these don't turn out to be on the level of "Bring The Mood", the Strays outtake-horrible but I'm afraid they will. If Dave, Perkins and Eric could all agree on various points you three could overide Perry. 3 against 1

Just let tour begin and them will see about the new stuff...people keep forgeting this is the first proper tour with Eric A. since 1991
Great!

But I would like that songs like Obvious,Of Course, Idiots Rule and Classic Girl are played on a regular basis on the tour set list...maybe they will..who knows.

TOTAL surprise would be Slowdivers and Ripple!

I said...

"I'll protect you" is Strays era "Cling to You" with different lyrics

VRIL said...

It baffles me why they tried to write IN the studio. Doesn't make sense. One would have thought they would write in Perk's garage and RECORD in Trent's studio. I hope Avery, Navarro and Perkins can hang and write some good shit between the 3 of them on this tour. If it doesn't happen now it never will

Dave: Having said that, we really have three full-length albums to choose from, so we pretty much learned everything we ever did and have it at the ready. We're a band that likes to switch things up from night to night. You never really know what's gonna poke its head out and where that's gonna happen because we don't know. But the good news is that we have all the songs in good form and ready to go if we ever need them.

Perry's starting show signs of a stiff, hunched posture and senile dementia likely due to prolonged drug and alcohol neuorotoxicity.

Progressive degeneration of dopaminergic neurons in the basal ganglia. Granted the brains lesions are probably not quite large enough yet to cause the severe hunch like that of Ozzy Osborne or typical patient with parkinsons disease but it is cause for concern.

The formation and continuation of a band named Satellite Party is the biggest sign of senile dementia we've seen thus far.

Don't you agree lhr?

I am starting to really like Trent Reznor and his gameplan.

Trent: "Regarding the NIN/JA tour:
It was my idea, decision and job to convince all parties (from my own band to Janes') to play before JA. Here is why. We've become tired of the "formal", very structured LITS - type production and way of presenting the band. The idea of walking onstage as the sun is about to set and play a bunch of unexpected material that's exciting for us to play without the bogged-down, flashy production appeals to me. You get to see us in a way you haven't before. Yes, it's different. Yes, the set lists will amaze some and bum-out many others. Everyone had ample opportunities to see LITS, and that era is over. We play our set leading you into the evening bathed in only white light in a physically tight setup, then Jane's come out in full color and openness. The challenge for us is greater, the set feels much riskier (especially with the challenging flow of the set lists I'm making) and that makes it exciting and valid for us.
The NIN/JA tour is generally geared more towards the hardcore NIN fan. We're not trying to play the greatest hits - we've done that over and over. Don't expect the same shit every night - that's why I relaxed the camera / recording policy. You'll likely be able to find what you want out there somewhere, from wherever. I'm treating these last shows as individual, finite, precious events that I'm sure will result in some polarization of your responses."

Anonymous said...

NIN rotating most their selection sets a new standard. Wow!

Anonymous said...

To anyone that knows or is a diehard fan of NIN;

What was the set list on their the last show?

Sorry to disagree but Perry´s voice is low and the songs are structure to his voice tempo...that is no big deal but you can not deny that.

I´m not trying to set a age issue cause a lot of 50 or near 50 year old´s lead singers still sing like in their 30 or 20...Robert Smith, Morrisey,Eddie Vedder,Patton,Cornell,Peter Murphy...etc.

You can sing better Perry.

If you can do something about it ....???

Eric loose the T-shirt so it´s looks more of an early Jane´s on stage.

Thanks Eric and Jane´s for the tour!!

About Tampa´s show "Been caught stealing" on youtube

disgustipatedone

some asshole tried to make a mosh pit during this song somewhere down there to the right of you during their set like a drunken idiot and he ended up elbowing me in the face/collar bone and my boyfriend stuck him in the face 4 times. then we had to run opposite ways in order to escape these asshole friends of the fatass drunk who wanted to crush our skulls.... exciting times. I'll always love Jane's, always and forever.

Reply;

Mudget

there probably should be a mosh pit for jane's. can't imagine them without one, actually. nothing more depressing than seeing a bunch of fat, balding people standing still and pumping their fist for an hour of fucking jane's addiction.

sorry you got clobbered tho. that's not the kind of moshing i'm talking about

end.

Don´t know why the pit is not on now on a Jane´s show.....here´s some reasons

1) High tickets prices so punks can not get in

2) Too many old nerds that wanted to be in Jane´s back in the day and now have the chance and money..plus now it´s save to go.

3) It has become inevitable Jane´s is now a save rock band with a save "rock audience" ... for my part that is not cool.

Suicidal Tendencies, Circle Jerks...still not save punks bands...you can get robbed and the pit is on with loaded on drugs kids..that is what was exticing about Jane´s audiences ...of course besides the music which is a BIG deal.

It´s great that they are playing now but its not the same....The Iphones dudes really piss me off..how can you pay 200 bucks for a ticket to "film" every time a "hit" comes along....you are there to FEEL with your own senses!!

Sorry Eric since you got in the band again I thought a Jane´s reunion would be more radical than this...and now realized Dave and Perry push away all the radical Jane´s fans in a period of 18 years

1991 the year MTV fuck punk rock.

hate to break it to you but nine inch nails are untouchable. they are blowing JA out of the water with totally different sets every evening so far. JA are gonna have to push the envelope hard if they want to match that. 60min is not going to cut it neither are the same list of songs every night

Anonymous said...

"Dave: we really have three full-length albums to choose from, so we pretty much learned everything we ever did and have it at the ready. We're a band that likes to switch things up from night to night"

lol. Was Dave being sarcastic? Other than 1 or 2 different songs the set has largely remained the same since La Cita. Perry is barking out orders for basically the same songs every night because his tiny brain has a difficult time remembering lyrics

Jane's might be saving some surprises for the tour, as it progresses, since everything gets out on youtube instantly.

More likely, the band, or at least certain members, are just too rigid and afraid to go even a little bit outside of their comfort zone. It's weird, really. I can't quite understand, especially when nin is there, with such a dynamic set from show-to-show.

Eric, please take some risks. We don't care if you guys feel something is under-rehearsed or something - just give us something spontaneous and unexpected.

On the 2007 Satellite Party tour, Perry Farrell promised to dig into the vault as far back as Psi Com and play the really good stuff from Jane's and Porno. It never happened. Don't expect much more than what they've been playing these last few shows. They would never ever be capable of pulling off what Trent Reznor has been doing for the fans. Trent is delivering the goods and the goodies for the diehard fans, Jane's are delivering the greatest hits.

"He promised the world and but only handed us the weeds"

Anonymous said...

"...handed us the weeds"?

Jane's are playing a huge chunk of their catalogue. You're calling "Three Days" and "Then She Did" weeds?

Jane's has a few more things they could play, and I'm sure at least a couple additional tunes will trickle out. Why play it all at once? In this day of instant video, they've got to save a couple of things. You don't just blow your load the first time out.

A perusal of all the available set lists from 1986-present
reveals the following songs were predictably played almost every show!

Ocean Size
Ain't No Right
Stop
Jane Says
Mountain Song
Ted, Just Admit It

The following songs, some would argue the best they had to offer, were played on occasion when it amused them. But most of the time were sadly neglected. In addition, they NEVER were played all in one show together:

Of Course
Kettle Whistle
My time
Obvious
Slow divers
Ripple

This is sad.

I love the guy and he has contributed so much to the scene over the years and I really wish he could tone down the cheese factor. He is starting to remind me of David Lee Roth post VH. Anyway, enough about that. It was excellent to see Eric with the band. He was solid. Perkins and Navarro were spot on and overall it was a great show. "

Perry Farrell recently stated in an interview he admired the energy and enthusiasm of Paul McCartney at 2009 Coachella. Not just his age, that made a big impression on Farrell.
Paul McCartney is in his mid 60's and that motherfucker put on an amazing show for more than 2 1/2 hours long of classic tunes

Perry Farrell, if you admire the former Beatle so much lets see Jane's Addiction go for more than 70 minutes. Is that too much too ask?

I was lucky enough to see you guys in Vegas on Monday night, the show was my first time seeing Janes Addiction and my 9th NIN show. Thank you for the music that you create that fills my heart with joy..
