CONGRATS Eric! This is awesome news! Really happy for you and looking so forward to the new record this fall! In the caption below your photo it mentions Flea played trumpet on the recording. That must have been fun to work with him in that capacity. How did that go? Are you and he friends? When he subbed for you in the first Jane's "reunion", he seemed to stay true to you lines which I thought was very honorable and the right thing to do. Did he confer with you on that back then? I know I've read that he is big fan of yours as well. Just curious. He's also one of my heroes as well. I met him once years ago in NYC and he was very gracious and kind. The same way as you were the time I met you at HBO studios. It's always awesome when you meet someone you admire and they are good people, it makes life stellar when that happens. Anyways, I'm real psyched for ya, talk soon and all the best, Matt
That's such great news, eric. Congratulations! And finally, I just got the bubblegum EP from polarbear about 2 weeks ago. I'm really liking this record a lot. I've got my eye open for the other polarbear record but can't seem to find any copies online.
You'll have to swing through the DC area if you tour the album. Lots of people out here want to see you do well.
Fantastic Eric, the falls so far away though. Can you tell us what it sounds like? More electronics and samples like Polar Bear or is it more guitar and bass oriented? Help Wanted, I like that. I was wondering how you were involved with the reunited Pumpkins (I mean Billy and Jimmy), were you offered to join or were you just jamming together. Can you spill any info about whose in the band or what they sound like?
Thanks. Last week my girlfriend asked what the first album I bought was, I thought about it for a while and realized it was Nothings Shocking. I picked up bass soon after and I think Pigs in Zen was the first song I learned. Keep up the good work and you engaging blogs.
Nice mug, EA, and congrats on the official announcement of Help Wanted. I haven't been this excited about a new release in, well, more than a decade. I know you've referred to yourself as just another old codger in line @ StarBucks, but you're looking pretty youthful and atheletic there, lad. Getting back to author Sam Harris, he recently went head-to-head w/ Rick Warren, author of The Purpose-Driven Life; here's the interview. Incidentally, the title of my forthcoming book is The Purposeless-Driven Existence: Plunging into the Nietzschean Abyss. Just playin'!
eric- im really excited to hear that you got signed and when your album's gonna be out, but it's still a long wait. oh well. did you do any other duties besides bass on the record?
i wanted to compliment your WSION song "hula". what are the lyrics about? i love to listen to that song on my ipod when im just walkin around my neighborhood lookin out at the bay. same w/ up the beach and iris. i also want to know your opinion about limp bizkit covering "i would for you". i saw the video of them on youtube. should such a beautiful song be so butchered and practically yelled by fred durst? i didn't like it at all.
and once again another burning jane's question: during august-september 1991, was that the worst time for you and perry? i remember in the whores book you mentioned that on the last show, 9-26-91 you and perry almost got into a fist fight. im just wondering how you and perry met almost as friends at the beginning and were bitter enemies towards the end. will you have a single out soon we can all enjoy? thank you eric ALEC
oOoO THIS IS GREAT! i cant wait till your cd, and i also cant wait till i can get those polar bears and decon cd's< possibly from you??!! if you do that sort of thing. Either way im getting polar bear, decon and help wanted.
congrats, Eric! This is long overdue and you deserve all the success that you may have. This is definately the best news I've heard all year and the one album I look forward to hearing more than any other. I very rarely buy new music these days but this is one that I wouldnt miss for the world! If and when you play live, will you hire a band to play with you or will you just go it alone with an acoustic? Either way, I'm sure it will sound fresh and original and you can bet that I'll be there, wherever or whenever you decide to play
Hi, just wanted to say congratulations and finally! been waiting for you to release something since polar bear! If you're touring in support of the new record, stop by ireland at some point!
Awesome news Eric. I think I have been waiting for this since WAY WAY back when you and Pete D signed to Long Live Crime Records I think it was. Then nothing really came out of that. I'm excited about this as you seem to always keep the purest vision of things and are one step ahead of the game.
esqfool
ps. who is your pick in the NHL playoffs? or at least your favorites? I'm saying Ducks/Nashville(depends on Forsberg) vs. Sabres, with Penguins upsetting some people. Sabres on top in the end.
Absolute congratulations. Here's to wishing you lavish success as you define it. I too am waiting on my copy of bubblegum and look forward to the new release. Why Something is both beautiful and meaningful. My son and I have enjoyed listening to it together.
oh finally! Hurry up, cut the time! Go with no cover, add a jpeg to the cd so if you want a cover you can print it by yourself (someone already did it here in italy), let's find a way to get the cd asap. I'm getting old. :) How do you feel about taking so much time between the birth of the songs and the cd? I know you needed a label, but can you explain some of the reasons because someone takes years to release a cd and someone else can do more than 2 cd in 6 months? I'm not talking about creativity, just technical times.
That's tipical me: months reading your blog and when I post... it's just bullshitting...
Eric-Congrats on the signing..Been real tough with my drug detox, but making gains...Funny how I never listened to Velvet Underground before, but lyrics in Venus in Fur sums it up for me...I heard they were very influential to you..Shame I wasted 20 years of my life not listening to them...Would have made a difference...Again, cant wait to hear the new stuff
Hi Eric, I just read this great news last night! I'm really looking forward to hearing which direction you took your music into for this release. Will I be reminded of any of your previous work or is this one gonna be something completely different from your past projects? Either way it's nice to have this to look forward to in the fall. Peace
matt- yes i am proud to call flea a friend. he is a really good example of the fact that you can become as famous as jesus but remain a real human being. recording with him, it was so long ago now its shameful. but it was great. took my laptop up to his house. we quite literally lay a mike down on the floor of his bedroom and he blew his trumpet while kneeling down in a crouch. he did not confer with me on the janes stuff but he really didnt need to. playing my simple lines probably put him to sleep.
playmelikeabird- my wife thinks my solo stuff is the next logical step from polarbear. still using all the same tools but its a step more focused. i actually just asked belle if she would write a blog post for me about her observations of the process over the last few years. she has been witness everyday so that might be interesting. i will post it when she is done.
i worked with the smashing pumpkins in an ill defined capacity. just helping hash out their song ideas and jamming a bit. when we tried to define it formally is when it came apart.
the words in hula are about sex, sensuality and life and death and purposelessness. side note: its very sylvia plath inspired. "shrivel and drop" refers to an analogy of possible futures as fruits on a tree from the book bell jar. and i quote "were it not for a bigger belly still than swallows joy" from a poem by her with the great line 'and so might rigor mortis come stiffen all creation, were it not for a bigger belly still than swallows joy'. if im remember it correctly. i cant remeber which poem its in.
the perry question is way too big a topic for a comment. you can find the answer to that out there. i was surprised by the candor people showed about our relationship for the spin article that grew into the book 'whores'.
esqfool- one of the things i find interesting about hockey in general is that it is difficult to predict. that being said, the parity this year makes it even more difficult. your picks are solid, although if buffalo meets a big mobile team late in the playoffs they might get worn down. they are small. and i wouldnt count out san jose in the west. teams dont ever win a cup without their goalie winning, being considered for, the conn smythe and the sharks have two possible winners there. i could go on and on. it will be interesting.
Hello, Eric and congratulations on the upcoming release! Very excited to hear what your new venture sounds like. I've enjoyed everything from your classic Janes's work through PBR to your stint touring with Garbage.
Speaking of Garbage, I'm thrilled to see that Shirley Manson has contributed to your new cd; you two create a "cool groove" together.
Keeping the faith and eagerly awaiting the new music. Best wishes to you and yours.
Don't sell yourself short--I'm sure Flea, as for me and everyone here, think your b-lines are among the greatest sounds in modern music! Have a great day, Matt
after an inauspicious stint as an unremarkable young man, a cursory tour of four high schools in three years with an early departure, perry farrell and i started janes addiction.

YAY ERIC!
seriously just seeing the dates section @ http://dangerbirdrecords.com/eric_avery/ makes me so excited.
Q: Do you really have any control over where you play or do they just set you up with wherever..
If you have control can you somehow get yourself to MA!?
Good day!

congrats eric!
congrats on the new label. as you can already tell, i'm not the only one who's been looking forward to hearing the new songs.
best of luck with the album and i hope to see you tour it. it would be good to see you play somewhere intimate like spaceland or the troubadour.
it is, dare i say, mint.
eric,
It's about f-in time! Your talents should not have been shelved for this long. I cannot wait to buy this album.

If/When you tour, I demand a show in Boston. :]

Congrats on the detox.....such a brave and difficult path.
Be well....
Best Wishes with your new album and business relationships.
Grateful that you share your music with others.
Do you have a band together in support of this? How often do you jam with others?
Respect and kindness,
Mike

chris c. brian- you know just how to make a girl blush.
thanks for the harris link. he is quite good on his feet.
the title of your book got a chuckle out of my wife.
alec- yes i wore many different hats on the cd.
