alright. you win. i surrender. i wanted to keep the blog filter free but it seems thats not possible. i am happy to allow negative opinions of myself and others to exist. nice thing about being a big boy is that name calling has no emotional effect on me. in fact, i find good honest criticism helpful. i certainly learn much more from criticism than from accolades. might not be as easy on the ears and heart but so be it. like i said, i enjoy being a grownup. which brings me nicely to the matter at hand. everyone has the right to publicly embarrass themselves in any way they feel. for our purposes here thats actually a serviceable definition of free speech. i have even enjoyed some of the middle school taunts aimed at me. but unfortunately it all gets beyond tedious when the 'smell my finger' comments begin to outnumber the rest of us. so i am being forced to delete comments and forced to change some of the settings on this blog. i am dubious that this is a fix. but i will see how it goes. this is a work in progress. feedback appreciated.

...oh yeah. to the guy who calls me herman i say: i know you are but what am i. youre gay. suck my dick. neener neener.

While I appreciate you firing back can we cease with promoting the idea that being gay is in some way a bad thing? Could you substitute that with Republican or something like that?

-ea. said...

vegancowboy- funny you say that because it did give me a moments pause. but i left it there because i thought that using gay as a pejorative was schoolyard infantile in exactly the way i was hoping to parody.

but point taken.

Yes now ihl or whatever his nick was can post again, without someone telling him/her to smell fingers.

funny remarks Eric.

Glad to see the crude comments go, it's nice to be able to view this blog without utter repulsiveness filling it up, although a few were quite funny, maybe not so much the "smell my finger" ones though, those really became old...
Anymore word on new material, the anticipation is building inside us all, maybe a hint of what to expect, or should we be left in total oblivion for a better surprise? :)

Eric- nice. I am glad to read this. It was probably a tough decision, but a worthy one. Freedom of speech is a great thing, but too often on this blog and most everywhere it has gotten abused. Thanks for being mindful and carrying on this blog in this fashion rather than throwing in the towel all together and shutting it down. Rock on my friend, Matt

Eric, much respect for doing things your way, again.
Making people show who they are when posting does keep the troll-factor down. Keep in mind, for some its impossible not to offend. Typed text tends to lead people to blindly grasp for what they think the inner meaning is of what's read.
On one hand, some people need to grow up, on the other, some need to lighten up.
Everyone does have a voice, but who wants to hear it...

Cool... now reading the comments section makes sense, once again.

Read ya soon, Eric.

Eric- if you do not mind me asking- do you have a take on the Health Care reform passed yesterday? - Matt

Eloquence, like manners is rare nowadays. A lot of people don't know how to criticize others or accept it when it comes their way.
Then there are those who think they build themselves up by putting others down. True strength is knowing your own self worth. Knowing how to cope with constructive criticism and lashing out criticism is a strong suit and a learning process. Cheers to you.

Eric- Thank you. The crude comments were getting tiresome. Looking forward to your musings.

Call me juevenile but I thought some of the comments were pretty hilarious. I laughed so hard my stomach hurt.

I particularly enjoyed the Herman Munster comparison, all of this mess reminds me of John Irving's, The World According to Garp

"In the world according to Garp, we are all terminal cases"

Hey Matt I would like to know whats the take on the americans in this blog on the Health Care reform?

Found out touring is hard work eh old man? Good thing you found a charitable wife who'll support your lazy ass. Thanks for putting the hold on Jane's for two years so they'll couldn't move forward and make an album-glad yr old butt is gone.

Eric,
I know this has been asked numerous times. IS there any way possible to have "animals" posted for a download?
The version you did on Camp Freddy was great and would like to hear it again.

Looking forward to the new stuff. Bodybag is still a great song!

andy said...

skullneck, its known as suns gone now and can be found on the help wanted album. Its very different than what you heard on daves show but still retains the nice acoustic in parts.

Semiramis said...

Animals was cool. A little disapointed it didn't show on Help Wanted. Sun's Gone has same lyrics but the guitar was rearranged and not as cool. I like Suns Gone but the live Animals rates as one of the best.

Whyt the animosity towards eric? dave and steve and perry cam always recordwhatever and whenever they like.. i mean shit even steve got sick of the circus and went off on his own for awhile. But it seems perry has to use the jane's name to get anybody's attention (no disrespect I like the majority of his solo stuff, except the song w/debby harry... that was... well better left unsaid) Nobody was ever promised an album. Petty name calling is just going to get any lines of cmmunication closed and then you'll be posting how eric is too good to bother blogging for you anymore. we don't own each other. Just because you decided to buy a cd or a t-shirt at a concert doesn't mean the band and it's members are your whipping boys and slaves.
and some people do actually function without the goal of more money in their lives.

hey Eric, really enjoyed your last album "help wanted" and wondering if you were considering releasing some new material soon. Also any unreleased tracks or studio demos from "Deconstruction" - one of my top 5 albums. Keep up the great work!

Eric, I am going for it. Full force. Would love your support. Thanks in advance if you do grant me that. I hope to be the next bassist of the smashing pumpkins- enjoy and best to you- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qj6ytDSd84I

Eric,

Never do this blog stuff but got the news here about your departure and gotta let you know that I deeply admire you- more so than any of the other 3 members.
Needless to say, I've been an enormous Jane's fan for many years, since '88. That said- I haven't been a "true" fan of anything the reunited Jane's has done since the 1st '97 "Relapse Tour". Honestly, the shows I saw on the following tours were less than fulfilling, to say the least.
And that said- the live clips from the net of the original line up Jane's (gotta be honest here) aren't much more moving, even with you back in the band.
As a long time wanna be musician, I would have to say that with Perry's obviously ailing voice and inability to hit the ol' high notes, his less "wild" and subdued stage presence (part of the band's original big appeal) and the band seeming to have to tune down to "d" rather than play in "e" to try to compensate for this reality-I found myself straining to enjoy just about all the live clips I've heard. Not that I'm the kind of guy that needs to hear the album version at a live show, it's just.. well, I've already explained.
Anyway, sorry Eric but I'm glad you quit- for whatever reason. Haven't even heard or read why exactly. But do I need to? I don't think so. Jane's will always be one of my most favorite bands/ artists, always. And your tirelessly hooky and smart bass riffs- and killer energy and stage presence, were a huge part of why I am the fan I am. But for too long now(I won't get into all of the slants on Perry and Dave here) I've felt things should just end. It's just not doing the legacy of the original band enough justice.
But I digress! It's about the LOVE, right? Why talk sh#t? Never the upstanding thing to do... Yeah, now we've got Duff McKagan from GunsnRoses?? Are you f#ckin' kidding me!? Good luck with that, Dave, Perk n' Perry.

Peace,
Sean

C'mon Eric just tell us the truth, Perry bitch-slapped you around again and this time you didn't like it so you threw another hissy-fit and quit. See ya back w/ Jane's in another 10 years for the "Retirement Sucks" tour!

Eric--

VERY long time Fan, first time poster. I just finished the Whores oral history of Janes book, that collection of quotes. I never realized what a f'ing prick Perry was/is...Damn. Regardless of his "I don't care about money" talk, it is clear that was ALL he cared about--taking half of all the publishing and mechanicals while leaving everyone else to fight over the rest. TOTAL BS! And his treatment of Lenoble in Porno--Jesus. What a f'ing Asshole!

I can't blame you for being done with that scene, especially because without you, they are complete shit. Strays was not only NOT a Janes album; it was a complete travesty. It was a joke! The only post JAnes projects that have been truly memorable to me are your projects. I absolutely loved Deconstruction and Polar Bear as well as your Latest solo project. I could not stand the Perry solo stuff or the satellite bs (though admittedly I was a fan of Porno for a while) and Dave's solo album was not so good.

Also, I saw some of the Australian footage from the last dates, and Perry sounded like complete shit--totally flat! I felt the same way when I caught you guys last summer at Jones Beach--the music sounded great but Perry had lost it. I imagine it is all the drugs and shit that have killed his vocal chords, but that voice is a shadow of what it was in 1991. I will never forget the first time I heard Ritual or the last time I saw you guys on Lollapalooze 1, when I ran out at 4:30 since MTV had just unannounced you were breaking up at the end of the tour. I had seen you guys at MSG and the first LOLLA date, but knew that if that was going to be it for my chances to see you, then I was there....

Sorry for the rambling. I just want to wish you all the best with your new creations....Always know you have a dedicated audience who craves what you come up with!

I have been listening to some of those Australian shows, and have

ea-
Thanks for allowing fans to catch some real Jane's shows last summer. While it wasn't quite like before, it was a great time catching you guys although it was apparent that there was something missing...vocals, energy...something was off. Even though it didn't last, hopefully you have some good memories to look back on. Belated happy b-day and best luck moving forward. As a lifelong and somewhat disappointed (although not surprised) JA fan, you are absolutely making the right move. Onwards and upwards!

Ok, I'm new here - a JA fan since '88. But, why would anyone say negative things about the man? He was apart of one of the greatest bands ever assembled, and is doing his own thing. He's also writing a blog for all to read. He doesn't have to do any of this. He's paid his dues and owes nobody anything.

Why is it that people feel it's ok to insult somebody from the safety of their bedroom, when they would never say such a thing to a persons face?

To Eric: Do your thing, man. I like the work with Shirley Manson, And I'm looking for some of the polar bear stuff. Your Bass playing has had a very heavy influence on my guitar playing - I play a LP strung with 12's thru a Sunn1000s and a Carvin 4x12 - most people say I should just play Bass since my sound is so bottom heavy, but whatever, I like my Les Paul.Besides, due to an accident, my fret hand couldn't handle those cable lines you Bass players call strings.
Keep on...
