the thom yorke solo show at the orpheum sunday night is still resonating for me. it was a really exciting event to be a part of. if i had to choose only one criticism of our current musical climate it would be that there doesnt seem to be alot of special musical events anymore. bands are either doing the verizon-something-or-other-theater or they are doing some contrived performance, in some contrived space, in some forced attempt at being different or unusual. these events often end up so 'artistic' that it seems more like marketing. in contrast, the orpheum show was a timeless display of the power of a really great musical experience. there was an electricity to the darkness before the band came out. we were then witness to a really pure experience of music. music. it was about the intrinsic substance of bands and musicianship. there was obvious great virtuosity but was not jammy, showy or particularly well polished; mistakes were made and unfinished song sketches were performed by yorke with just vocal and guitar or vocal and piano. a friend put it well saying that it was an unusual combination of being a really artistic evening without being at all pretentious.

it was a really impressive lineup of musicians. for purposes of full disclosure i must admit that flea is my friend and i am admittedly biased in favor of him but still...he is such an amazing player now. he continues to inspire me to become a better musician. but everyone on stage was an accomplished musician. some famous, some not. in an age when people are mixing and matching different celebrities for marketing reasons, or to combine catalogs, it was really nice to see a 'supergroup' built by shared virtuosity and musicianship.

if a listing music industry wants a new generation to care about supporting a music industry. create musical experiences that deserve their support. these evenings are timeless, transcending not only time, but also current musical styles and taste. i know. i saw flipper club lingerie and x at the whisky-a-go-go over two decades ago. i will now add thom yorke at the orpheum amongst all the others on that list.

Hi Perry

Next time buy your motion sensor from somewhere else than Walmart-its a piece of shit, literally. I just took a big diarrhea dump on your lawn. I'm holding an Black & Decker 200mph blower, blowing the cloud of fecal gas through your open windows into your livingroom for the pleasure and enjoyment of your delicate nostrils. All for your Perry.

Since you asked me to come back and fertilize your lawn I did. I covered the entire yard with my own feces. So now your grass will grown green and the flowers bloom nice and pretty for you. As per your request, I also painted my personal fecal art on the outside walls of your home. Permanent stain. Unfortuntely there WILL be a surcharge for my artwork. NO REFUNDS.

Eric--

Would be interested to hear your thoughts on the most recent demise of Jane's, what you hoped for and what you've resolved. Whatever they're doing without you, it shouldn't be called Jane's. Does this liberate you in some way? Can you now focus on your next solo album (which i want to see more than another Jane's album, anyway)?

And since you asked the question - please blog it, don't twitter it - your pronouced thoughts are much more intersting than any twitteresque comment...

Thanks,

Hi, please can you stay in Jane's Addiction another year. We like you to give Jane's Addiction another chance if you can grin and bear it. Painful it can be. Yes the lead singers most difficult to work with. This is the rule not the exception. Angry you may be after the trial. Someday years from today you will look back and say it was worth the struggle. You can put Duff in the band, Avery, Flea, Chaney, D’arcy, Mike Starr, or Avery's roadie.... fact is no one bought the last JA record, what makes them think anyone will buy this one? Face it, J.A. were great, but they are one step away from headlining third market county fairs. The douche frontman dad ran out of good ideas in the mid 90's. Some just don't know when to quit.

Billy Corgan: No, what bothers me is the notion that we’re done. We didn’t come back for the cash, we came back to be great again. It made me mad that people thought we’re done, that we don’t have a future. We picked up where we left off. We’re not the retirement band playing our old hits. ... I don’t give a [expletive] that most of my heroes got lame when they turned 40. I spent most of the last decade thinking about that. Why do they go from this insanely high level of work to diminished echoes of the past? And I think it’s a coziness thing. You do something amazing and you don’t want to lose the crowd that tells you that’s amazing. You’re out in the cold. Well we like to be out in the cold. We’re done with the record business, so we’re free to do whatever I want.

but the reason he had come was not to gain a thing
but merely point the way

he asked, why do you want more power?
when you have what you've got
for when all is said and done
and happiness is all thats wrong

the more you breathe your life into
this life we're passing through
the more its going to burn for you

The Aquarian Age
With 2012 approaching, music’s siren song drew him into the studio. He made a commitment to himself to write music and lyrics not predicated on current trends. After he made that decision, he awoke the next morning, sat down and intuitively wrote a new song in less than 15 minutes. He felt compelled to release the mystical sounds he had been feeling inside. The creative floodgates opened and it flowed like water from a cup. His idea was to combine flowing, seamless vocal melodies and uplifting themes with the textures, colors of acoustic & effect laden undistorted electric guitar. He worked on an intuitive level. He believes most important thing is what feels good. It’s about hope and positive energy. The Aquarian Age is the age of man and the shift in energy is becoming more transparent. It's a time for reaching out.
Odd time signatures and East Indian percussion patterns permeate the album. The result is an adventurous and accessible album that's certain to attract a wide cross-section of music fans in 2010 who look towards 2012 as a time of planetary realignment, evolution and transformation..

Look at Van Gogh, he didn't sell many paintings and lived in poverty most his life. No one cared then but now...His work is genius. Good Gods Urge didn't sell but most fans consider it a masterpiece. I'm waiting to hear a group translate Van Gogh's paintings into a musical equivalent.

The Score said...

We must give credit where credit is due. Everytime PF made a good decision he gets 10 points of cred. Everytime PF made a bad decision he loses 10 points.

The Score

+10 touring with NIN
+10 playing "obvious"
+10 appearing with Pearl Jam
-----------------------------
-10 arguing with EA in TR's studio
-10 letting EA go
-10 playing with Joe Perry
-10 writing with Duff
-10 fiending for a supergroup
-10 fiending $$ and fame over all else
-10 acting/posing like David Lee Roth on stage
-10 writing lousy lyrics
-10 acting like a douche
-10 refusing to play nothing but the same 12-13 songs over and over and over again.

So PF started with a clean slate. He gained 30 points. Then as time went on his proceeded to loose 70 points. His cred is at -70 and falling fast.

IDEA FOR JANESADDICTION.com

Allow fans to submit applications to sit in and coproduce the next album. Allow one to three winners to listen to demos and rough tracks and present ideas and changes.

Fly the winners in with compensation for time. Not lapdog fans or yes men like the members of perryfarrell.net. Lapdogs will not be able to give an objective opinion because whatever the band does however good or bad they will worship blindly.

Sample questions for
APPLICATION TO COPRODUCE JANE'S ADDICTION

1. What is your definition of art?
2. Why is art and commerce typically incompatible in the eyes of Major Record Labels?
3. Have you ever ingested a mind altering drug besides alcohol and what did you learn from the experience?
4. Do you believe in the existence of life on other galaxies?
5. How can you live here and now when you are always thinking about death?
6. Is freedom something real or is it an illusion?
7. How do you see the world situation in terms of musical evolution?
8. What do you think about premonitory dreams?
9. Name 10 of the most influential recording artists of the past 75 years and explain the impact they've had on music and culture.
10. How has music changed your life?
11. What are your two favorite Jane's Addiction songs and why?

There aren't really any "pop" songs here--though there are myriad verses and choruses pregnant with haunting melodies which melt in and out of the landscape. The songs are indeed very complicated and elaborate, but always soluble, mixing into your bloodstream. The willowy gusts of dreamy images whisper in your ears and weigh your heart down, as the immensity of this record is truly overwhelming. Casual pop fans should steer clear of Circulatory System , but anyone willing to broaden horizons and expand minds through this gorgeous, orchestrated dream sequence would be remiss to not own this album. Absolutely a record that some people won't get at first, or won't get ever, but once it sinks in it wraps around you.
There is also a heightened emotional component--a great simultaneous joy and sadness which reveals itself after a few listens. Circulatory System circulates all around, including funereal ballads like the solemn "Round" or the distant, chiming "Now." I don't think there's another artist working who can even approach the mastery; I mean having the full-on understanding necessary to create aural trips of symphonic complexity with conceptual coherence and dream-logic abandon. The thought that went into this record is, frankly, astounding"

"What I saw"
Part II

When I saw Navarro holding his electric sitar it got me rock hard. His sitar appeared like an extension of his penis. Like a snake charmer it was impossible to resist the enchantments of the magic genie play his phallic instrument. He played it almost as good as he played the skin flute. I saw the wandering eye of master Corgan taking a peek at the magic genie's crotch. When the show was over the Corgan stroked the genie bottle like he was massaging his own pecker. "Return to me" Billy Corgan said sternly, "I want to hold you in my hand wild one". And at that very moment Navarro's etheric double disappeared into a cloud of ether and into the genie bottle Corgan was holding. Yes that's good my pet, I will summon you when it's time again to gratify myself sexually.

The decline, and how it can be reversed

Through child to teenage years you are far more carefree. You start to experiment. Everything is new and fun. Unfortunately, as you move into adulthood you tend to become far less carefree. You feel the weight of the world alot more & life becomes much more complicated. The cares, worries, anxieties that you now have as an adult are magnified and saps your energy and creativity to almost zero. This is where a certain molecule, Lsd-25, can be of great assistance in one's creativity and lust for life. Acid takes you back to a carefree fun time, brings up childhood memories and puts you in tune with the cosmic consciousness. All of which can be of tremendous benefit to the jaded writer, painter or musician.

I guess what it boils down to is PF sees JA as an arena pop metal band like KISS. Eric A [and 75%-90% of the fans] see JA as what it USED to be, alt.rock art band. There is no convergence of the two styles. KISS and Joy Division have nothing in common.

Anonymous said...

I wish Pete DiStefano and Stephen Perkins could do a side project of Hawaiian island music for a psychedelic Luau. That would be fun!

I predict the same exact songs @ OZ as NINJA will be played by these retards. If I am wrong I'll suck off the bass player.

Anonymous said...

Hey Barry you would suck off the bass player anyway

Anonymous said...

Oh a festival gig for JA. Hmmm. I wonder what they'll play.

This is a tuffy.

Got to think really hard and burn some brain cells here.

Will they play Ain't No Right? Nah they rarely play that one.
How about Jane Says, will they play it? Nah they rarely play that one either. Got to think.

Maybe they'll play Mountain Song because its been decades since they played it right? You would think...nope, none of those. They'll only be playing the skin flute.

Mountain Song-->mountain of repeats

Ain't No Right-->ain't nothing changed here

Your right mate Soundwave Festival Jane's kicked butt. Maybe 2008-09 was just a warm up for the real thing?

I feel a change in the air. Something is different now. I think the band got a weak response from the nin audience and it wounded their confidence. Farrell seems back in line and in better form than I've seen him in a long time. More interaction with the audience and the psychotic edge is back, thank God. The cheesy antics are absent and thats a good thing. Eric is still a moving tank crushing all in his path. I do hate the stupid kilt perky wears everytime they feel the need to play Jane's says. Now only if they would switch up the songs and play something different like some cover songs like classic Velvet Underground or Bowie. Just something different and unpredictable.

In Kathmandu

~From afar she looked like a small white egg of light. I was so transfixed by what I was seeing. I couldnt move. Then to my utter amazement and shock, the egg of light started getting bigger and was floating toward me. She moved like a ray of light beaming herself in front of me as she walked to me her energy moved in a way that seemed to make her float.

Her huge aura, like a white luminous egg encompassed her body. I had never seen anything like it in my life. She held out her hand. I put the rose in her palm. Then my knees gave way and I sank down to her feet. When my head touched her feet I felt as if I was going into the center of the earth. I thought I had linked up with the soul of the earth because I had connected and felt a total oneness with everything. At that moment I realized enlightment. I was free from everything in the external world. I moved my head up and she looked at me and smiled. She was like a star that had come down from the sky and then receded back to heaven. I felt the sacredness of all forms. I was living in a mandala, a heaven on earth, in this magical land where every human being was deified in my consciousness.

Enlightenment is the beginning of the journey not the end. As your inner life expands your outer life becomes less demanding. At this point you begin to experience life on a different level. With enlightnement comes a richer life. The simple enlightened life is profound, as you're able to live in the now.

im hooked on the tune "circular change" when billy and dave took a trip back to the 60's. so when billy hits studio for that song i hope he keeps the percussion, female backing vox, flute and twin acoustics exactly like he did live.
one of the best he's written in his entire career. did dave help write it i wonder?

of new music but of money...so that
is why Eric is leaving the band..this generation sucks too so it makes the whole concert experience so boring no mosh pit on a Jane´s concert and no mosh pits on any punk concert at all maybe except for a few bands.

i'm experimenting with a software program which can sample anyones voice and model it exactly all nuances and such. so when I sing into a mic the modeled voice will come out and sing whatever words I sing.

the first voice i am modeling will be perry farrell's. soon i won't care what kind of wrong turns he makes in his career or even need to follow what he does because i can make him sing whatever i wish using the modeler.

*makes big devilish grin*

right, so i won't have to pay him exorbitant studio fees or anything.

my first step is to record one of my songs using the modeler so perry is singing for my group. i am going to make it sound exactly like perry lost in a K-hole, searching for a microdot to help him nagivate the bardo plane.

Eric, Glad you are calling it quits on the JA reunification experiment. I think you are doing the right thing. You are better on your own. You were the heart of the real JA, and if the other 3 want to put out another scrub album, like Strays, it certainly can't be considered JA, regardless of how they label it. Keep on doing your own thing. True JA fans recognize the greatness within it. As well as the awfulness that accompanied every other member of JA's solo projects.

You can't get blood from a stone. The trent reznor, farrell, avery sessions proved it. Lets celebrate a new future and the new jams Mr Avery's been hard at work at. I look forward to the second ea dangerbird release.

Thats pretty funny ya knowe...thinking lazybutt will do anything other than release a solo album and sit on it. I give it less than 2 years and eric will disappear into obscurity because its the way he wants it. Perry gave him worth and he throughs it away. Your right I luv PF's cape cuz I dream of wrapping myself in it with his magic footlong jammed in my ass. Your right I luv his wife's plastic lips, boobs and dyed hair-how inventive its never been done before, so plain as day, like Pamela Anderson and Dolly Parton never thought of that! She's not a product of Los Angeles culture she's doing her own thing right, right.

Anonymous said...

Lets be clear, Eric walked away from the deal. He was so weak he couldn't compromise he had to have his way and his nin ripoff drum beats. Jane's Addiction is not about ripping off nin and portishead. Jane's Addiction is about reaching for the stars and claiming the glory and shining in the god light in their own style not making skowls and pouting and stomping around pretending to be Herman Munster.

what a waste of time dealing with dipshits like you.

I don´t know how old are you but PF was suppose to be the anti mainstream icon and now HE REALLY SOULD OUT...

Maybe you are into PF, I mean he used to be a cool/asshole guy, they all were cool back them...but now the only one that remains cool is EA and maybe Perk.

Courney Love said that Kurt Cobain wanted to be rich...but he still made her return a Lexus(murdering bitch)...If he was alive I hope he be more like Novoselic...very political a low key...that was Nirvana and I thought maybe PF would be like that at 50 something, what U turn he made.

Anonymous said...

Ok lets get one thing clear here...the only reason this new JA project came to an end is cause of
PF...he was junkie ass back in 91 and he is a moneylovi´n' ass now in 2010.

Hi Duff, Is that hair on your head or a raggedy beached mop? By the way your playing sucks.

Think about it if it was all about the music, Dave, Perry and Steve would have built pro studios for themselves and/or be producing bands, their own music, or running their own indie label with the millions they've made from Jane's, Chili Peppers, Lolla, ect. Are they doing any of that? No. So Eric made a few bucks with the NINJA he can afford to do that now.

Anonymous said...

Who cares what he looks like. I listened to Velvet Revolver and Duff McKagan solo cd and he is boring as all get out. To be honest he sounds like a carbon copy of Motley Crue. Will name recognition result in increased ticket sales and more money in their pockets? They are banking on it, that is for sure. Sorry but you have dropped your load with Avery. He is gone and he alone was the only saviour you had.

Duff was selected with the goal of draining every last drop of milk left in the bosom of a dying mother.

When the crisis is over, the middle classes of the western world will have been liquidated of their economic, political and social status. The global economy will have gone through the greatest consolidation of industry and banking in world history leading to a system in which only a few corporations and banks control the global economy and its resources; governments will have lost that right. The people of the western world will be treated by the financial oligarchs as they have treated the ‘global South’ and in particular, Africa; they will remove our social structures and foundations so that we become entirely subservient to their dominance over the economic and political structures of our society. This is the "New World Order" and George Bush bragged about in 1991.
