last night during the show in camden nj, i had a moment that is the type of inner experience of performance that no one sees, but that is interesting to me internally. we were playing the song "then she did". one of my favorites, entirely created by perry. we began playing it and i closed my eyes. i often close my eyes to help focus more singly on what is happening in my ears. so i had closed my eyes at the beginning of the song and when i opened them again i had been engulfed entirely by smoke, dry ice. so much so that i could see nothing but the swirling clouds of smoke with one small single bright light in the distance. it turned out that the light was a light out at the soundboard in the middle of the audience. didnt know this at the time. so im cloaked in my cloud of smoke with my distant point of light and i thought that it sort of poetically represented my death. "then she did" is a song of death and it all seemed very comfortable conceptually. i could feel that the light was patient and id eventually get there, but that tonight i was a good distance from it, that all that really existed for me was my time here and, in particular, my extraordinary spot in the spectrum of human experience. namely, being on stage for the ritual of performance in front of thousands of people. this is the sort of internal experience i seek out to enrich my experience of performance, and thereby keep it interesting to me and by extension hopefully to you all.

There's a lot of speculation about Jane's Addiction future recordings. I think they could do well from the example of Jane's Addiction s/t, the live debut. My idea is just play the new songs live, record em and then do some overdubs in the studio separately. Wa la, a nice pseudo live recording that may well retain the timeless qualities we all enjoy. Prolonged studio sessions likely to terminate a nice reunion way to soon. So far so good keep it together boys.

Your reaction to SP is typical. What's questionable is what is wrong with you that you would do that. That is to say that if you, for example, pour gasoline all over yourself and light a match, you might expect some level of burning to occur. So why would you do it?

The National ID card - yet another great lie. You´ll be biometrically scanned, DNA catalogued. Just like a store item being placed on the shelf. Think that parallel is a coincidence? If you ever had blood drawn anywhere for most anything, then you´re in the system already as I am. You´ll be receiving your government issue ID card or perhaps a new federal drivers license. A short period of time will be allowed to pass before it becomes mandatory. Then you will begin to hear phony news stories of "fake ID cards" and other propaganda in preparation for the next step. This is the infamous problem-reaction-solution methodology at work.

And the solution the government will use to stop the fabricated ID card forgeries? Chip implants for EVERYONE. You eventually won´t even be able to purchase a stick of gum without waving your hand past a scanner. Just think about this. Ten years ago, everyone laughed at human chip implants as "never gonna happen in America." Now they are clearly on the horizon and no one is laughing anymore.

The government plan is to first chip implant the military. US Army war college documents outlined this plan. Military implants will be followed by implanting the police, and then the entire population. Everyone will become an "inventoried item." Just like hi-tech modern asset tracking is used in industry (and soon all retail.) But then - isn´t this what bankruptcy is? Taking inventory of assets and liabilities? Why should bankruptcy for a country be all that different than it is for a company or individual? The same accounting principles would still apply - just on a larger scale to include people as assets.

American Fascism said...

USA is becoming a fascist country. Multi-National Corporations and the gov't are in bed together. The corporations are using the government to do their bidding. The aim is to gain a monopoly and eliminate competition.

Observing political and economic discourse in North America since the 1970’s leads to an inescapable conclusion: the vast bulk of legislative activity favors the interests of large commercial enterprises. Big business is very well off, and successive Canadian and U.S. governments, of whatever political stripe, have made this their primary objective for at least the last 25 years.

Before the rise of fascism, Germany and Italy were liberal democracies. Fascism did not swoop down on these nations as if from another planet. To the contrary, fascist dictatorship was the end result of political and economic processes which these nations underwent while they were still democratic. In both these countries, economic power became so utterly concentrated that the bulk of all economic activity fell under the control of a handful of men. Economic power, when sufficiently vast, becomes by its very nature political power. The political power of big business supported fascism in Italy and Germany.

Obama Science Advisor Called For “Planetary Regime” To Enforce Totalitarian Population Control Measures

In his 1977 book, Ecoscience, John Holdren advocated forced abortions, mass sterilization through food and water supply and mandatory bodily implants to prevent pregnancies.

This is what the elitists have planned once their global government control grid is in place and implemented. Sounds like paradise, right?

We Are Hungry Men

Here is the news
According to the latest world population survey
The figures have reached danger point, my god
London 15 million 75 thousand
New York 80 million
Paris 15 million and 30
China 1000 million
Billington-Spa: lots

My studies included suffragy
I formed my own society
to study the power of fecundity
The world will overpopulate
Unless you claim infertility
So who will buy a drink for me, your messiah

We are not your friends
We don't give a damn for what you're saying
We're here to live our lives

I propose to give the pill
Free of charge to those that feel
That they are not infertible
The crops of few, the cattle gun
There's only one way to linger on
So who will buy a drink for me, your messiah

We are not your friends
We don't give a damn for what you're saying
We're here to live our lives

(spoken)
Achtung, achtung, these are your orders
Anyone found guilty of consuming more than their allotted amount of air
Will be slaughtered and cremated
Only one cubic foot of air is...

I have prepared a document, legalising mass abortion
We will turn a blind eye to infanticide

We are not your friends
We don't give a damn for what you're saying
We're here to live our lives

You don't seem to hear me clear
Do I talk above your sphere?
Let me explain my project dear
Show you how I'll save the world
Or let it die within the year
Why do you look that way at me, your messiah

We are not your friends
We don't give a damn for what you're saying
We're here to live our lives

We are hungry men
We don't give a damn for what you're saying
We're here to eat you

Judging by Farrell's recent statements to bbc radio it seems this guy's thinking is all about money and fame and wishing Jane's was a "big supergroup" who can appeal to pop culture. This is the exact quote

"when i get sad and blue and i say to my life, hey etty why can't we be a supergroup, like this giant group? and she goes honey i told you you decided to sing about heroin and menage a trois and that limits your pop culture accesibility"

Pop culture my ass. Jane's was counterculture. Hasn't he learned any lessons from "Strays", a popculture sellout record? I don't want to hear any new music from this man. Time to retire Mr Farrell and go to the old folks home you fucking gimp

Perry was ambitious and wanted to make money from DAY ONE. Jane's signed to an gigantic major label, and had videos in heavy rotation on MTV.

This isn't a defense of Strays, or other crappy music, just a statement of fact. The line "cash in now, honey" really is about cashing in. It's not a criticism of cashing in, it's Perry's declaration that he is going to make Jane's huge. Perry said in 1988:

"It's like cash in, do it now, don't let anything stop you,"

Then in 1990:

"When I first came to L.A., I would go up to Laurel Canyon, I'd look down at the lights at night... I'd say 'I bet every one of these motherfuckers will know my name'...Every little fuckin' house way up there on top of that mountain. Feels good now."

It's the act of approaching the making of the music in an effort to be commercially BIG that's the bad thing. Making music to move your soul, and then FORCING that to be big is what the original lineup was doing.

The Strays method results in shit music, while the RDLH and NS way results in great music, but either way there was always a desire for financial rewards.

Anonymous said...

I am glad you finally realized that JA is washed up, good for you.

Take a closer listen to 1991, and it may be clear.

Too bad EA wasted 17 years, who knows what could have been.

Ok, you made the money, Perry take your panties off, it's making Dave hard, Eric stop stomping around like a tard.

Go back and listen to your own albums, then show me what you got

Jane´s in 91 reached a peak in live performances.

I believe "cashing in" was a good thing in 91 but it was not the same thing to cash in back in 91 as in 09, 03 and 01.

Why?... because youth has changed, it was letting the punks/surfers/goths "your audience" listen to the music and introduce it to someone similar...no every moron as it is now... assholes that have an Ipod and in their play list next to a Jane´s song is Madonna..what the fuck!!... if you don´t get that u must be 20 techno-jackass/DJ Dickhead or 30-40 and you didn´t really like Janes back in the eightes until later or option C Perry Farrell model 97-09...

When I heard Jane´s was getting together I thought their was hope and wanted the reunion...but little did I know that:

1) Perry can´t sing loud no more.
2) Perry moves like a girl
3) Perry dress code embarass me other than shocks me.
4) Navarro is...is lost in fame and fashion
5)Concerts are too corporate.
6)People attending suck.
7)the extremely high prices to get in...kind of "will let only people with money in" so that´s why there´s no pit!...

Jane´s was music and youth culture of the underground...if you think what made Jane´s mystical was only the music your dead wrong...you weren´t there...hope you understand Eric... get it out of your system man an carry on...

I know that you don't want to moderate, and that's understandable, but consider that most people with anything worthwhile to say won't bother to contribute due to the flooding by one or two trolls.

There's a good solution, and that is taking away the "anonymous" option for posting. It would be nice not to have to do that, but things are now so far gone that the alternative of leaving things as they are looks much worse.

Youtube is not everything you have to LIVE it in order to tell it...the airplay of punks bands in the late eighties was so little, it was full of easylistening shit and with "Jacko" sounding in all the mayor radios...go get history lessons...

Remember Jane´s Catalog must be controled by Perry guessing since he get´s 75% of royalties from the songs and the rest just 25%.what a shame.

I'm 37. I don't need your version of history, because I was there. That's really beside the point, though. Being big was always on Jane's agenda, and that fact has nothing to do with how old anybody is.

Jane's did not want to be an underground band. 3/4 of the band worshipped Led Zep, and two of them were really into Motley Crue.

Jane's were not a punk band. Punk was one influence of many, with the classic hard rock influence being the biggest thread between the four.

Jane's is kind of like a Rorschach Test. Some people look and see a funk metal band. Some see a psychedelic hard rock band. Some see a post-punk type of thing. Doesn't matter.

As was already written about "Mountain Song":

Perry said in 1988:

"It's like cash in, do it now, don't let anything stop you,"

Then in 1990:

"When I first came to L.A., I would go up to Laurel Canyon, I'd look down at the lights at night... I'd say 'I bet every one of these motherfuckers will know my name'...Every little fuckin' house way up there on top of that mountain. Feels good now."

WOW, that's really enlightening. Tell me more, oh wise one.

Eric was the only one who didn't want to be the next Led Zep, from the start, but if you don't think he wanted financial success, you're fucking nuts. He realized that he could make some cash touring with Alanis Morissette, so he did. Was that "punk rock"? No, it was pragmatic. Eric wanted a certain quality of life, and went out and made some bucks to support it. I say good for him, mate, though at this point YOU may wish to start calling him a sellout.

To continue with your obsession with Eric's sterling punk rock cred, I bet you he's not sending those royalty checks from commercial use of Jane's songs back. Did Eric try to block the sale of these songs like John Densmore, the drummer of The Doors, has blocked the commercial use of Doors songs? And if Eric's so great, why is he hanging out with this sellout band you so despise anyway?

Eric's guilty of all these things you hate.

Hey Bugs,

Pretty bad reading comprehension level, most of the last complains are towards Perry and what has became of him and his voice... noboby dislikes Eric music or blames him for wanting to do it one more time..I was pro tour Jane´s in the beginning but now I think it was not such a great idea..I think they are killing the legend...still I´m not in my mid 40´s or 50 so I don´t know if they wanted just to play one more time...maybe when you get there you just say "fuck it"...and they did.

Sellout: Perry Farrell

Bugs said...

My reading comprehension is perfectly fine. What I did for you, my friend, is point out that Eric is guilty of many of the things you and/or others are faulting Perry for.

I have no idea what the motivation is for each member. Probably a mix of fun and money. Jane's is the biggest thing any of them every did, musically. It's an inescapable part of the identity of each member.

I personally don't care if they want to simultaneously get their kicks and make some dough. Nothing wrong with that, in my mind.

I understand the position of some, that this reunion is not the same as the days of yore, but how could it be? I take them for who they are now, and I don't expect them to be kids again. I enjoy seeing them. It doesn't erase the younger Jane's for me, but I can see how it might for some.

So, I can easily see both arguments, but in the end I support the band. It's not life or death to me. Maybe that's why. I have a very laid back approach to it. It's all gravy...

Sellout: to critised the system and be successful doing it amon you peers, then wating more and became a corporative lackey... then part of what you critised in the first place...an irony.

You have to love the freedom of speech of this blog...and the owner´s patience for that matter.

In the end "The forbiden to forbide" mode is really cool here.

Wow, if there was one truly beautiful thing about the internet, it's that someone like you, with so many admirers, can post such a personal moment so casually and that said admirers can enjoy that moment of pontification. Thanks for all of the good stuff, Eric. You've been such a positive influence in my life.
